How the Project Started?
The project started with Conor Sanford whose passion for a long time has been to restore Kilmore Cottage, bring it back to its former glory and make it a central focus in the Kilmore Community. In order to get the ball rolling so to speak, Conor decided to run the London Marathon in 2022 to see if he could raise funds which could be used to help with the initial plans for restoration of the cottage. The Kilmore Cottage restoration project is definitely not without its challenges. One of the biggest challenges is dealing with the extensive damage that had been done to the cottage over the years as the cottage had been neglected for a long time and it shows.

Kilmore Oneilland Trust were very fortunate between Crowdfunding and private donations and were able to reach their £2k goal for the cottage which was just phenomenal. And of course so many people supported Conor for his Marathon run from all over the world. Here is a photo of Conor running the Marathon.
Kilmore Oneilland Trust were also very fortunate to receive lots of coverage in the press. Here is one of the articles which covered Kilmore Oneilland Trust in the Ulster Gazette. You can read the full article in its entirety by clicking here.
The £2k Crowdfundraising Campaign got the ball rolling for the Kilmore Oneilland Trust Restoration Project. It has brought together people from all walks of life to work towards a common goal. This project from the outset has shown that with dedication and co-operation, great things can be achieved for the Kilmore Community. And the Board of Directors at Kilmore Cottage are thankful for the volunteers who have dedicated their time and energy so far into backing Kilmore Cottage with the long-term goal of restoring this important piece of local history.
The money which was raised for the Marathon helped to fund an initial LIDAR Scan. In architectural projects, airborne scanning can take place from an aircraft. This is known as Light Detection and Ranging, or LIDAR. A LIDAR Scan pulses thousands of times per second and gives incredibly exact measurements between points, creating a 3D collection of XYZ coordinates known as a point cloud.
Kilmore Oneilland Trust carried out a comprehensive LIDAR scan of the exterior and interior of Kilmore Cottage, which recorded completely accurate 3D measurements of every part of the building’s surface and its environs. LIDAR Scans can also record spatial and physical information about a building which will also help the volunteers at Kilmore Oneilland Trust to identify any issues with the cottage and find solutions in both the short and long-term.
